One of the great things about our job is that we get to travel a lot and meet people from all over. Our next couple, Krista & Jordan, are from Birmingham, Alabama. They were married at one of our favorite, favorite places to take pictures,
High Hampton Inn in
Cashiers, North Carolina. One of the many reasons people get married at High Hampton Inn is because the backdrop for the ceremony location is absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Couples say their vows on a grassy lawn that overlooks a private lake and huge, stone-faced mountain backdrop. Once you see it, it is easy to understand why we LOVE taking photos there so much. Everywhere you look at High Hampton is gorgeous and something about the place just relaxes everyone who visits there, it's a true gem.
Dan and I arrived on Friday afternoon to shoot the rehearsal dinner you saw in the previous post and it was been a gorgeous day. Now, here's a little foreshadowing for our story. I distinctly remember Krista saying, "I don't care what happens tomorrow as long as we get to get married in front of that gorgeous view!" Dun, Dun, Duhhhh. We woke up Saturday morning to, well, pouring rain. In fact, rain might not be the right word, perhaps monsoon is more appropriate. I thought, "Oh no! There is no way they were getting married outside today."
Well, when it comes to rain and weddings, never say never... It poured all day right up until the time of the ceremony. We were waiting for it to be called inside all day, but our darling little bride Krista was both hopeful and determined to have her dream ceremony outside against the backdrop of High Hampton's beautiful view. So, Krista decided to try and wait out the rain. The staff at High Hampton Inn was also determined to make sure Krista got what she wanted and they thought that if they just postponed the ceremony for a half an hour, it would clear up and everything would work out, and boy were they right! They waited until the last minute to quickly put the chairs out for the ceremony. Then, all of the sudden the clouds broke, and everything was perfect (just fyi, that is outstanding customer service, I don't know a lot of places that would wait until the last minute for you like that)!
Now, you may be thinking to yourself, "What a miracle!" And, you are right, but y'all, even though you might think things never work out that way, little wedding miracles like this actually do happen all the time! There have been plenty of weddings that we've done where the forecast was awful only to have the day go by with just a drizzle in the morning. In our experience, Dan and I can literally count the number of times rain has actually significantly altered a wedding plan on one hand. So the moral of this little story is if you really want an outdoor wedding, don't be afraid to have one... just be ready to be a little flexible and have a back up plan, any back up plan will do. And if rain is in the forecast, don't worry and don't give up hope because these things do always seem to have a way of working out in the end :)
Now, on to the photos of this sweet, sweet couple. Aside from the first two pictures, which I want to narrate, I don't think you would ever know that it rained. The afternoon of the wedding when we arrived Krista was well... just kind of upset, which she was later embarrassed about (I don't know why she's just cute like that). So we all decided that she would feel so much better if she and Jordan saw eachother and hugged and I think that did make a huge difference. Next, there was so much rain that High Hampton Inn transformed their conference room into a dressing room for the girls to get ready in, which was pefect (again, amazing customer service). So the girls went and got Krista's dress from her cabin, turned on some tunes, busted open a couple bottles of champagne, and started putting on makeup. While it was still raining, we took photos under a covered porch as everyone crossed their fingers and said their prayers about the rain. It was a magical day.
I could literally go on forever about the prefect day this turned into or especially how amazing this couple is --- I get like 3 email a week from Krista just letting me know how awesome she thinks we are (seriously, she's like my personal ego-booster and the sweetest thing in the whole world!), but I know y'all just wanna see some pics, so here we go!!
Enjoy!!
