Do you have business insurance?
Yes, we have insurance for liability, equipment, errors and omissions, etc. I also have a business license and pay all applicable taxes.
Do you edit your own work?
Yes, we personally edit all of our own photos. As your photographers, we were the ones there capturing the moments and know your work the best. It only makes sense that we also handle editing from start to finish.
Do you shoot film?
Yes, we have the capability of shooting both film and digital photography. I began my career as a film photographer and have worked with 35mm, medium format, and large format photography. When I shoot film professionally now, I shoot with medium format film. 35mm film is too small, therefore it doesn't capture enough detail. 4x5 format film is too cumbersome, slow, and completely impractical for wedding photography. However, medium format or (120 and 220) is a great format for weddings and portraiture.
What type of equipment do you use?
For digital photography, I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV and have a Canon 5D Mark III as a backup along with a couple other Canon DLSR camera bodies, Canon Flashes, Alien Bee Strobes, Canon L-Series lenses, etc. When it comes to film photography, I use two different medium format Pentax cameras, a Pentax 67II and a Pentax 645 along with a variety of Pentax lenses.
Do you offer prints, albums, canvases, metal prints, wood prints, and other photo products?
Yes, we offer wide variety of photo products that can be purchased through your personal password-protected online gallery of images.
Do you offer high resolution digital files ("digital negatives") to clients?
Yes, we do!
How far in advance should we book photography for our wedding?
Most couples book their wedding photography with us about one year in advance. We accept bookings as much as 18 months in advance, but if your wedding is coming up soon please still inquire as we always leave some dates open for last minute bookings.
Will you hold my wedding date?
In order to reserve your date, we require a 50% retainer and signed photography agreement. Without those two items, we cannot hold your date. We have to stick to this policy in order keep things fair among all our potential clients and to avoid any appearance of favoritism.
Are you personally going to photograph our wedding or will you send someone else in your place?
In my 10 years of business I have never sent anyone in my place to photograph your wedding. Booking a wedding is a commitment, I take seriously and will do everything possible to honor that commitment.
How many photographs will I receive?
We typically deliver about 100 images per hour of wedding photography and about 60 images per hour of engagement and portrait photography. I shoot much more than that - hundreds of photos per hour. I edit those hundreds of images down to about 100 images by eliminating images that look identical to one another, the subjects' eyes are closed, or the image is just a bad photo in general (yes, we may very occasionally take a photo that isn't awesome, so we won't waste your time having to look at it).
Are you available to travel outside of Tennessee for weddings in other areas and destination weddings?
Yes, we have photographed many weddings around the United States and internationally, including weddings in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Jamaica, and Turks and Caicos. We love to travel, so wherever your wedding is, please contact us.
How does the wedding album ordering process work?
The album ordering and design process can work in a couple of different ways. In your personal online wedding gallery that you will receive with any Watson Studios wedding package, you will be able to mark your favorite images and organize photos into lists. From your list of favorites, we will create a custom album design. From that design you can note any changes you'd like to make and we continue making edits until the album is exactly what you want it to be. If you don't want to make a list a favorites and would rather leave the photo selection to us, we'd be happy to take care of that part of the process for you. Once you approve your album design, you can choose your choice of cover from a selection of dozens of high quality leather and cloth covers. You can also decide how you would like your names to appear on the album or if you would like a cover photo, along with many other options.
How far in advance should we book our portrait session?
We will book portrait sessions for any time as long as we are available. That said, in order to have the best chance to book the date of your choice, we recommend booking portrait sessions about 4 weeks in advance.
Are you going to personally photograph our portrait session?
Yes, I, Dan Watson, will personally photograph your portrait session. I have never had to substitute anyone for myself. When I book a portrait session, it is extremely important to me to
What location options do we have for our portrait session?
I am happy to perform your portrait session wherever you would like as long as professional photography is permitted at that location. There are a number of great parks in Nashville for photography, like Percy Warner, Shelby Park, Sevier Park, among others. In addition to public locations like parks, there are number of locations like Belle Mead Plantation, where you can pay a small fee and have your portrait session there. At-home sessions, where we do the portrait session at your house, is another great location, because it is where you and your family spend time and make your memories. This not a definitive list.
