Smoky Mountain Gatlinburg Wedding

This post about a beautiful Smoky Mountain wedding is bittersweet because since it took place tragedy has struck Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas. Wildfires have devastated Gatlinburg and the area in East Tennessee where we photographed this and many weddings in the past. Luckily, Morning Glory Farm and it’s lovely proprietors Vickie and Papa G were unharmed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the fire. To help those affected, please consider donating to one the many organizations that are aiding the relief efforts.

If you have never been, Gatlinburg is a special place where you can enjoy the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park AND ride down the side of a mountain through the woods on a mountain roller coaster. It’s the home of Dollywood and moonshine, waterfalls and wildlife. I love it there! The mountain views are incredible. Plus, I love a good go cart track and there are dozens in the area. Not small ones either.

Olivia and Jon were married at Morning Glory Farm in Cosby, Tennessee, just outside of Gatlinburg.  The sun was out and the mountains looked amazing. It was the perfect fall day and the perfect day to celebrate these two amazing people. Jon is a five time combat veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Olivia is a talented graphic designer. She is also of Indian descent and beautifully incorporated the culture into their wedding ceremony. Olivia was a gorgeous bride and the fall colors of the mountains looked amazing with the soft tones her bridesmaids’ dresses. The stunning flowers were done by the incomparable Melissa Timm Designs and the delicious and trendy ‘dirty frosted cake’ was provided by Gail’s Custom Cakes. The rentals were provided by Rothchild’s and the catering was provided by Great Smoky Mountain Catering Company.

I hope you enjoy these photos and can find a way to help this community recover.

Chesapeake City Farm Wedding

This wedding was very special to me. Many people don’t know that before I became a freelance wedding photographer with my own business in Nashville, Tennessee, I was a photography teacher at two different boarding schools on the East Coast. My mom and dad were teachers and administrators in boarding school when I was a kid, so when I graduated from college I followed in their footsteps and taught at boarding schools for a few years. First, I taught Photography and Mathematics at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut. Then, after going back to school to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design, I taught at West Nottingham Academy (WNA) in Maryland.

In 2007, I left West Nottingham to start Watson Studios in Tennessee. I returned to Maryland nine years later because one of my favorite photo students of all time, Carl, was getting married and he asked me to be his photographer. I really enjoyed teaching, and being asked by Carl to photograph the most important day of his life, was a great honor for me.

Carl married Jill, his high school sweetheart, in their hometown of Chesapeake City, Maryland. Carl and Jill met when Jill toured WNA as prospective student and Carl was her tour guide. She ended up attending WNA, so I guess Carl had a pretty good sales pitch! They started dating shortly after and the rest is history.

Carl and Jill were married on a beautiful fall day on Carl’s family farm where his mother and father raise horses. Jill also has had horses her whole life and works with them to this day. Both Jill and Carl are avid animal lovers and they wanted to incorporate their four-legged friends into their wedding. Their German Shephard, Millie, was gifted to them by Carl’s mom when they first started dating and Millie is their “child,” so she played a big role in the wedding!

The girls’ makeup was done by Sheri Swift and their hair was done by Abbey Rodgers. Jill got her Maggie Sottero wedding dress from Brides and Grooms in Newark, Delaware. Jill, and all of her bridesmaids, looked amazing! A & M Tents provided the tent, linens, lighting, and rentals. Pulling off a wedding at a private farm is no easy task, and these wedding vendors all did an fantastic job creating an incredible wedding.
