For us, as it is for many people, January is a time for renewal. The weddings season is winding down for the winter and we get a chance to slow down the pace a bit, recuperate, plan, and most importantly reflect.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about the camera's ability to capture emotion in a way that no other medium can. The camera has the power to freeze time and emotion, no matter how fleeting. And sometimes the viewer is able to feel something too. That's what first attracted me to the art of photography and is what continues to inspire the work we do today. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity, to witness insanely beautiful and personal moments.
It was a special honor to get to work with this next couple, Brigitte and Travis. Their story is one of a couple that knows the value every moment together. When we first met with Brigitte and her mom Jill, they said this wedding would also be a celebration of Brigitte's survival. Not only are both Brigitte and Travis in the Marines, but Brigitte is also a recent cancer survivor - emphasis on survivor because in addition to being one of the nicest, most full-of-life people you'll ever meet, Brigitte is definitely one tough marine!
I just can't say enough what an honor it was to work with Brigitte and Travis. And their families were also so wonderful and it was such a beautiful celebration. To me, this is what photography is truly made for, capturing the beautiful moments people share.
So, here are a few of those moments! Enjoy!
That's Brigitte's sister and mom helping with the dress.

My fav of the day!! I can feel their emotions here!

Isn't she gorgeous?!

Travis

Another favorite.

You could tell they always love to laugh.

Just before her dad walked her down the aisle.

This magical scene is just one of many belonging to Megan and Roan on their beautiful wedding day. Eight or so years ago I would have never imagined that I would one day be photographing Megan Yates' wedding or have the ability to take such a photo in the first place. Megan was probably around 14 years old when we first met and I was photographing her big sister Amanda's track team, dreaming about owning my own business and being a 'real' photographer. It's so crazy and amazing how some dreams really do come true :)
If you've been following us for a while you might remember Megan & Roan's engagement photos, which I believe were the first of many engagement sessions done at our farm. OR, Megan is one of four sisters, we did Amanda's wedding in 2008.
Megan & Roan's wedding took place in Newland, NC and here are just a few of our favorite images!

Getting ready. If I had to say my number one favorite thing about this wedding it would be Megan's hair!! Megan is a hairstylist and so of course her hair had to be phenomenal! It was crazy, awesome, beautiful and totally Megan

Just love that little girl in the hallway :) Fun, sassy shoes too!

Amanda & Megan

Love that hair and I'd die for her skin -- we did zero retouching!

The four sisters and their beautiful momma. I always say they're the sassiest girls I know!! And hilarious too! Alyssa (the youngest) was especially sassy that day ;)

They are sisters and best friends...

I really had to restrain myself from just photographing the hair.

Mmmmm, fun!

Roan!! Man oh man their kids are going to have gorgeous eyes!!

Getting ready to walk down the aisle.

A very sweet ceremony

Megan & Roan were following us after the ceremony to the reception, where we planned on taking the shots if just the two of them. On the way over, Dan happened to glance over and see this GEM of a spot (he always finds the best places!!) We just had to pull over!

So sweet!

This is what they were following us in and this is where we pulled over. The pretty place was on the other side....I'm sure they were like, well, ok... we trust them.

First Dance -- I'm loving Roan's sweet face!!

And a fun reception mix!! The end!! Congrats guys, we love you!!

I just realized this is our first post of 2010! So exciting because I know this is going to be a great, great year for Watson-Studios.... I can just FEEL IT! I haven't picked up the camera once this year (ha,ha) but I'm so, so, so excited about this weekend's wedding and it has something to do with this next post. My bride Katie & Jeremiah, who you haven't met yet, are getting married at the location of this engagement shoot, Hunter Valley Farm.
AND, da,da,da ----- it's suppose to snow on Thursday!!!!! And if it does, I don't think it's going to be warm enough to melt off the grass before then! I know it's kind of like putting all of your eggs in one basket to say it's going to really snow here, and please don't take this as I want her wedding to get snowed out and I really will feel sorry if she's cold but I mean this. could be. a true. winter wedding!! With real winter wedding pictures!! I'm totally stoked!!!!!

So on to the main event, meet Lauren & Travis! They are getting married this spring at Hunter Valley Farm and decided to do their engagement pics there. It was great because we really got to explore the property.
So here's our latest engagement session and here's to a fabulous 2010 for everyone!

The End!! Thanks Lauren & Travis!! We can't wait for May 21st!
