On the morning of Lauren & Travis's wedding I rolled over in bed, grabbed my phone and started looking up the weather. Sometimes if I know that they're calling for rain I'll stop looking a few days in advance with the hopes of giving it time to change -- that's just my little good luck charm :). Anyways I immediately saw that it said 80% chance of rain! Oh no!!! I shoved the phone in Dan's direction to let him see and rolled back over --- Gaaah! I mean rain isn't the worst thing in the world by any means but no one exactly wishes for it on their wedding day. It was suppose to be an outdoor ceremony at Hunter Valley Farm. Although Lauren & Travis had a backup plan they (of course) didn't like it as much as their original plan and I just knew she might be a tad bit disappointed.

So, when we got going I loaded our raincoats and huge umbrellas in the car but there was no sign of rain rain. We got there, started taking pics, still no rain.. Lauren's mom told us at that they had to decide by 4:30 if they were going to move everything inside or not and she was taking a poll - my vote was for outside (of course). They ended up taking a chance on the outdoors and IT NEVER RAINED!! It was actually sunny during their ceremony. So lucky.
So my new philisophy is that unless actual, significant rain drops are coming down with no end in site, don't venture from plan A. If you think about it, most outdoor wedding ceremonies only last about 15-20 minutes anyways. That's such a small window that chances are, you're good. And even if it does start to drizzle, really, it's not a big deal. We've been to least 6 outdoor weddings were it was actually drizzling during the ceremony and no one seemed to mind. It just is what it is... the weather in the southeast :P.
We had so much fun at Lauren and Travis's wedding. Everyone was great and it was just a really, really nice day. We've had a great time working with Lauren and Travis, they are such an amazing couple! Here are a few of our faves!

Lauren was stunning!

ISO like 2000 in the bathroom, girls praying for no rain, and as you already know, it worked!!

Beautiful, sweet ceremony. Check out that sun!!!

Love this nice classic pic by Dan of the two of them. I think one day they'll look at this picture and think gosh we were young!!

We pulled Lauren and Travis out of the reception for just a few minutes before sunset.

Their first dance :)

A little bit softer now, a little bit softer now...

We asked Lauren's friends what they wanted to write and they said LARVIS, get it?

This next one might be my favorite!
The End! Congrats Lauren and Travis - thank you so much for having us!!

In addition to L-O-V-I-N-G the wedding season thus far we always adore the opportunity to photograph some little kiddos...especially these guys. Meet these 6 super cute cousins! This is not my first time to shoot them...well except the two youngest boys, they're new :). I've done the boys once before and the two girls at least twice -- in fact, if you take a look at our family portfolio on this site you'll see their younger versions. Little hams, all of the them!
Dan and I did this shoot together, we took about a zillion photos but as always, here are a few of our faves!
Hope everyone had a long and fun weekend :)

Here is one of the two families.

Katie and Johan had an intimate wedding of about 70 guests, all of which took place at their friends' amazing residence on top of a mountain in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. From the moment we arrived I knew that it was going to be an amazing day. The weather was gorgeous, there was music playing all over the house, people were eating and drinking, and the whole atmosphere was just very light and laid back --- my kind of wedding day :). Katie had a maid of honor (her sister) and Johan had a best man. The ceremony took place in a garden area outdoors that was prefectly backlit throughout the entire ceremony. It was just one of those days where you feel truly blessed to be a wedding photographer in East Tennessee!
After the ceremony guests enjoyed a cocktail hour out on the lawn and the light was just amazing. Later, everyone went into the tent for dinner. Johan (although he now lives in Knoxville) is Danish, so as is tradition in Danish culture (and many European cultures) there were a lot of speeches by many of the guests and they were all great!! I swear I think I was laughing behind my camera the whole time. The most amazing part was that in hearing everyone talk, and as the hostess pointed it out, there were people in attendance from all over the world at their wedding - truly amazing.
Here are some of our favorite wedding photos of the day - Enjoy!

I think this is my favorite picture of Katie. Her eyes are just amazing!!

And now the rest of Katie's gorgeous family you might remember from their engagement shoot. A windblown Silvia, Johan's three year old daughter, and the handsome groom himself!

I just wanted to show the back of Katie's dress. I loved, loved her dress.

This is Dan's favorite picture of Katie

The light was just perfect as we were taking these so it took no time at all. What easy subjects!?

Possibly my favorite pics of the day

Katie's flowers and cake & cupcakes were gorgeous! (See vendor list at the bottom of this post)

This is a shot from that beautiful cocktail hour.
