I was searching my old hard drive this morning looking for something to post and I came across Dan's and my wedding invitations......even though this isn't photo-related, I though I'd share since it is wedding-related.
Dan and I had a small wedding in Camden, Maine, which is a small town on the coast. We lived there the summer before we got married because Dan was working at the
Maine Photographic Workshops. We fell in love with the area and I still think of it as one of the best summers of my life. Our wedding was 3 1/2 years ago...we had about 35 guests, very small but we had a lot of info to send people so I decided to make all of the invitations and info pieces myself. I wanted everything to match but didn't want to spend a ton of money.
My 'inspiration' for the invitations came from this print Dan's mom has framed. It is a variation of the Shaker Tree of Life. The Shakers were kind of like Quakers, but more interesting (just in case you're wondering, we're not Shaker - lol). Dan went to
Darrow School, a boarding high school in upstate NY at the site of an old Shaker Village... and so he and his parents collect Shaker 'stuff'. I liked the tree as a symbol for a wedding because it's like two trees (people) growing into one, you get the idea.
So, this is what I came up with... this is the actual invitation piece. It also had a folded, opaque parchment thing that went around it with a white & turquoise (tiny) polka-dot ribbon, which I don't have a picture of. (I was in a very colorful mood that summer.)
The outside envelope was white and I used the same font for the addresses. The font is called
Miss Claude. (If I had to redo anything I would change the font because it was hard to read.)
Outside envelope:
Response Card:
The response card envelope came from
Paper-Source, one of my favorite online stores. The color is called Papaya - it doesn't look this neon in real life! :)
Then, in the same envelope (because I was super-late getting the inviataions out), I put two other invitations... one for the rehearsal dinner and one for sailing, for those who were arriving early enough, which was also a last-minute thing... (Those two invitations were the same size and shape but it doesn't look like it here.)
I also included this little info card:
So everything above went out in one envelope. I lined the envelopes with paper - it was actually flat wrapping paper from
Paper-Source... Paper-Source sells a lot of BEAUTIFUL flat paper you can use to line envelopes. I just made a template and cut it out, like a cookie cutter. Then I used something like
this to attach the paper to the envelope. It is a really easy way to spruce up an envelope.
I also made place cards to use at the reception. They folded over and these were the front sides...
PAPER: Everything was printed on the same paper -
Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Matte - it is photo-quality so printed really crisp but I wish I could find a paper that prints that well that is a touch thicker... I think, the thicker the better...
PRINTER: We used our home printer, which was an Epson Photo R1800. (The R1800 has since been discontinued and replaced by the
R1900).
That's it!!
Those bring back so many memories! I think I helped you (didn't I?) with lining the envelopes...so fun!
